Follow My Book Blog Friday (09/30 to 10/07)

This week’s featured blog is The Bookaholic. Remember to head over there and follow!

Today's question is:

Q. What book that hasn’t been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

Oh no! I hate when they turn books into movies, they almost always screw it up and I don’t like it. Besides, I don’t want to associate a character with any actor because I have a somewhat clear mental image and then I would lose it, that’s why I also hate it when a character’s description says something like he looks like X actor. So my answer is Hell No! I’m not telling you about my fav book because I don’t want you getting any ideas about turning it into a movie.

Have a great weekend everyone!

This week’s question is:

Q. In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question “comes out of the closet” and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

Maybe some type of wish-fulfilling being, like genies or fairies, that way we could enslave them and make all our dreams come true… I’m just kidding, that would be cruel and inhuman (well, let’s face it, not thaaat inhuman, it would probably happen). I also like hot vampires and hot werewolves, as long as they are hot I don’t care what type of creature they are.

This week’s question is:

Q. Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

I've been reading my whole life, but the first “adult” book I read was Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder (that book isn’t adult at all, I think kids and teenagers should read it an they would probably enjoyed it more than an adult). That book sealed the deal, first of all it was the longest book I had read in my life and I spend years considering majoring in philosophy (I ended up studying anthropology though).

Jude Deveraux’s Velvet Angel was the first romance novel I read, and since I’m obviously a huge fan of romance novels, then I think I have to mention that book as well.

That’s it. I have read tons of fantastic books, both fiction and non-fiction, I have read classics and best-sellers like The Da Vinci Code, I have enjoyed most of them, other I have regretted buying, but I wouldn’t have read any of those books had I not read Sophie’s World first.

We Fancy Books

Today’s featured blog is We Fancy Books, don’t forget to stop by and follow them!

This week’s question is:

Q. Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

My two favorite authors in the world are Nora Roberts and Michael Crichton. Unfortunately Michael died two years ago so meeting him would be quite difficult and scary. I’m not sure if I want to meet Nora though, because I will pee my pants and scream like a little girl who just got a pony for her birthday and that would be embarrassing. My third choice has to be Meljean Brook, I’m obsessed with her books and at this point if I could only read one book a year (which would be a tragedy so know on wood) it would be one of hers.

Today’s feature blog is Angela’s Anxious Life (that name is making me anxious). Let’s give her a warm welcome to the Follow Friday community and remember to follow her!

Q. What do I do when I am not reading?

I’m going to skip the boring parts (studying, working on my thesis, doing shores and fake-exercising which means that I just pretend to use the treadmill while giving the evil eye to the perfectly fit people at the gym) and just say that when I’m not reading and I have free time then I’m probably just hanging out with my friends or going to the movies by myself. Yes, I’m one of those weird creepy people who go to the movies alone at crazy hours like really early or really late (because that way I avoid kids and teenagers).

 Q. Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

This is going to sound like a cop-out but I don’t bother finishing books that I don’t like, not even to see how the train wreck ends. There are some pretty awful books that I haven’t finished and some series where the first book was quite good or showed promise and then it just went down. The thing is that because I try to read as many reviews and references before actually getting a book this doesn’t happen often and I almost never do impulsive buys.

Now, the worst book that I have read was Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews, the thing is that I kind of liked that one in a creepy-disgusting-I-can’t-believe-I’m-reading-this-crap-and-liking-it kind of way and I felt really dirty afterwards (which didn’t stopped me from going and reading the rest of that series, which BTW is a WTF-fest even worse -in case you were wondering-).

So there you go, I’m disgusting. Gotta go now because Jerry Springer is on!

Don’t forget to enter our giveaway, it's the post before this one. I’m choosing the winner today at 5pm EST so you still have time!

This week's question is:

Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.

This one is easy! I love Aragorn played by Viggo Mortensen, I would jump either one of them, the character, the actor, the actor in character.

See what I mean? He's all sweaty and he’s got a sword and a horse, he’s also a king which means that he also comes with a castle… Viggo is hot too (I don’t even care about the weird name), he speaks several languages and most importantly, he gets a full-frontal shot in the movie Eastern Promises so you know what to expect…

Today's question is:

In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer…let’s talk about fairies. What is your favourite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?
Oh I love Fairies! I believe in magic and I am pretty sure that fairies are out there; this time of the year is particularly magic I think, and everything is possibleJ. My favorite story about fairies may be the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr or The Book of Fairies series by Maggie Stiefvater. And my favourite fairy tale is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Today's question is:

Genre Wars! What’s your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

If I have to choose only ONE genre (why only one??) I would have to say that for me is Romantic Suspense and Suzanne Brockmann and her Troubleshooter Series is the one to blame, especially Over the Edge. To be fair Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard is also responsible, that’s a really good novel.

Today's question is:

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?
That’s a tough one, but in the spirit of the last book that I read (Kiss of Snow) I would choose to be Sienna, not only I’d be younger but Hawke sure is really hot and Sienna's powers are scary.  The real truth is that I can not choose a heroine. I want to be Becky from the Shopaholic Series (Sophie Kinsella) and Bella from the Black Dagger Brotherhood (J.R. Ward) and Taylor from the Guardian Series (Meljean Brook). Actually; I think that Taylor it is! Oh yeahh, I easily could deal with Michael!

Today's question is:

Q. How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?

Maybe  2 or 3, I used to read more but after I had the clever (or stupid) idea of going to Grad School my reading time, or let’s call it, my fun reading time, is only a couple of hour every other day. Almost every book is digital, but I read a hard copy maybe once a month.

Today's question is:

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

I have so many that I don’t even know where to start…

  1. I think bananas are disgusting and can’t even touch them.
  2. I don’t like chocolate.
  3. I’m afraid of kids, every time I’m in the presence of one I break into a sweat.
  4. I was such a fan of the X-Files that even now sometimes I read old fan-fictions that I have secretly stored in my computer (on a file that says something like very important data from work). Once a month or so I watch some episodes (and by some episodes I mean only the shipper ones), and I can tell the name of the episode, the season, everything just by watching the first seconds.
  5. And my favorite thing in the whole world is Salt and Vinegar potato chips. I'll eat them until I can’t feel my mouth.

Gee!! I think that all my habits are quirky, I’m just a weirdo. Here are a few then:

  1. I always count how many steps takes me to walk a block (OCD  anyone?).
  2. Everything in my live has a soundtrack, so I’m always quoting a song.
  3. Once I start eating sour gummies I can’t stop until I run out of money or my jaw and tongue starts hurting, whichever comes first.
  4. I’m always doing at least 3 things at the same time, like watching 3 TV programs at the same time or having several windows open in my computer (facebook, email, a music website, the blog and my review and school folder)
  5. If I start a book I have to finish it, even if it the worst book in the world otherwise it stays in my head driving me crazy

Today’s question is:

Q. The Blogger Apocalypse made me a little emotional. What is the most emotional scene in a book that you have read lately?

Early this year I read A Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith, I haven’t cried that hard since watching Marley and Me… The book is about these two kids that are two worlds apart, she is rich and spoiled, he lives in a trailer with his abusive father. It was very dramatic. Here is the synopsis if you are interested.

Twenty years ago, Claire Maloney was the willful, pampered, tomboyish daughter of the town’s most respected family, but that didn’t stop her from befriending Roan Sullivan, a fierce, motherless boy who lived in a rusted-out trailer amid junked cars. No one in Dunderry, Georgia—least of all Claire’s family—could understand the bond between these two mavericks. But Roan and Claire belonged together until the dark afternoon when violence and terror overtook their lives, and Roan disappeared. Now, two decades later, Claire is adrift, and the Maloneys are still hoping the past can be buried under the rich Southern soil. But Roan Sullivan is about to walk back into their lives . . .

Bantam. May 4, 1998.

Hi there! I cry about everything so is hard for me to choose just one, but there is this book called "Dream a Little Dream" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips that made me cry buckets, every time that the little boy asked his mom if they were going to die my heart broke a little. Here is the link is case you want to check it out.

After the discovery that her late husband, a popular televangelist, embezzled five million dollars from his ministry, Rachel Stone is outcast and broke with a five-year-old son to raise, and in need of a job. Then fate and a dead car engine leaves her at a shabby drive-in theater owned by Gabriel Bonner, the hunky, anti-social black sheep of a prominent family, and the only person in Salvation, North Carolina, willing to employ her. The sexual electricity starts crackling the instant they meet--but it will take the shock of both their lives to give these two lonely people a second chance at love

Magnet4Books' Reviews

Today’s featured blog is Magnet 4 Books. I particularly love the background, let’s say hello to Al who runs the show! Take some time to go visit and follow.

This week’s question is:

Q. Circle time! Time to share. What character in a book would you most like to be, what character in a book would you most like to date?

What’s with the hard questions? Well, this book comes out next year, but for what I can see I would love to be Detective Taylor from Meljean Brook’s Guardian series because I have a huge crush on Michael. And if I can’t have him I want either Hawke or Dmitri from Nalini Singh's books. Apparently I’m into guys whose books I haven’t read…. This is like literary blind dating!

Here I am, a little bit late as usual. As for my answers, they depend on my mood! Sometimes I really feel like Sophie Kinsella's characters, because I'm a little bit like them so sometimes I would like to be Becky Bloomwood. I like heroines with personalities but that can be funny and easy-going. Ohhhh! I could easily be Jesse Keyes (From the Bakery Sisters by ) the heroine of Sweet Trouble by Susan Mallery, she can bake! If I'm feeling like kicking some asses Alyssa Locke (From the Troubleshooters Series by Suzanne Brockmann) is my choice. About the Hero I have to agree with Brie, Michael and Hawke are in my top 5 list. But if I'm feeling naughty I think that Zsadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood is my choice, does that make me Bella? And then there is Sam, both of them: the one from the Troubleshooter Series and the one from Mr Perfect by Linda Howard. Too many choices!

Today's Question is:

Q. What is on your current playlist right now?

Well, recently I have been obsessed with Beirut (I'm going to their concert next September!!!); I'm also listening The Strokes and Radiohead (they both have new Albums now). And my old times favorites:  Jack Johnson, Norah Jones and so much more, I love music and depending on my mood I choose what to listen, lately I have been listening "The Greatest" by Cat Power.
