Waiting on Wednesday: Animal Attraction

I’m going to start just with this phrase: the hero is a veterinarian. If that’s not enough for you to go and pre-order this book I don’t know what else to say, well I could try saying that he is shirtless and holding a kitten! Come on, if you are not melted by now then you are made of stone!

Jill Shalvis is one of the reasons why Contemporary Romance is my favorite genre. She can do comedy and drama and her books are entertaining and touching. Her heroes are dreamy and her heroines are down to earth and likeable. This year I’m anxiously waiting two of her books, this one, book two in her Animal Magnetism series and Head Over Heels, the last book in the Lucky Harbor series (I’ll tell you more about it on some other WOW). Animal Magnetism was one of my favorite books of this year and I can’t wait to read the next one. If you haven’t heard about this author I think you should go and randomly pick one of her books because she is that great!

Animal Attraction comes out in October so there’s still a bit of a wait but I think it will be worth it! If you are an animal lover then this series is perfect for you.

Review: Fools Rush In by Kristan Higgins

This is the third book I’ve read by this author and I think I’ve finally found the key to really enjoy them: it’s all about the heroine. If you can relate to her, then you are probably going to like the book because this author doesn’t write romance, she writes woman’s fiction. This means that even though you do get a hero -or a romantic interest I should say- he is basically a secondary character and could never be called a protagonist.

Our heroine is Millie Barnes. She is back in her hometown and is determined to get her dream’s life. To do that she needs to find a job as a family doctor, she needs to lose weight and get a makeover, and she needs to get a man. But not any man will do, she wants Joe Carpenter (who also happens to be a carpenter) a man she has wanted ever since high school (when she was nerdy, pudgy and puking on other people’s shoes). And so she finds a job -albeit not the one she wanted-, she begins to exercise and she starts to stalk Joe in order to “accidentally” run into him. But sometimes what we want isn’t what we need or what will makes us happy, and it takes Millie a lot of time to realize that.

 Q. Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

This is going to sound like a cop-out but I don’t bother finishing books that I don’t like, not even to see how the train wreck ends. There are some pretty awful books that I haven’t finished and some series where the first book was quite good or showed promise and then it just went down. The thing is that because I try to read as many reviews and references before actually getting a book this doesn’t happen often and I almost never do impulsive buys.

Now, the worst book that I have read was Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews, the thing is that I kind of liked that one in a creepy-disgusting-I-can’t-believe-I’m-reading-this-crap-and-liking-it kind of way and I felt really dirty afterwards (which didn’t stopped me from going and reading the rest of that series, which BTW is a WTF-fest even worse -in case you were wondering-).

So there you go, I’m disgusting. Gotta go now because Jerry Springer is on!

This one is easy! I love Aragorn played by Viggo Mortensen, I would jump either one of them, the character, the actor, the actor in character. 

See what I mean? He's all sweaty and he’s got a sword and a horse, he’s also a king which means that he also comes with a castle… Viggo is hot too (I don’t even care about the weird name), he speaks several languages and most importantly, he gets a full-frontal shot in the movie Eastern Promises so you know what to expect… 

Review: Cold Touch by Leslie Parrish

I discovered Leslie Parrish almost a year ago just after the release of Cold Sight, the first book in the series. I came upon that book by mere chance, I didn’t know anything about the author but since the synopsis sounded interesting I gave it a try. I can only say that once I finished the book the first thing I did was go to Parrish's website and see when the next book was coming out. I was instantly hooked.

The series centers around a group of people working together on a private investigations agency. They are not regular detectives tough, they all have paranormal abilities. Aidan, the hero of the first book, is a psychic, Julia, a former police officer who is now in charge of the agency, just happens to see her dead partner’s ghost, and Derek can see the imprint of a violent death repeating over and over like an instant replay. Then there’s Olivia, our heroine, when she touches a dead body she can experience the person’s death, which means that she feels everything: the pain, the desperation, the fear, she basically becomes the victim.  I’ve got to admit that when I read the first book the moment Olivia was introduced the only thing I could think about was how amazing her book was going to be.

 In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer…let’s talk about fairies. What is your favourite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

Oh I love Fairies! I believe in magic and I am pretty sure that fairies are out there; this time of the year is particularly magic I think, and everything is possibleJ. My favorite story about fairies may be the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr or The Book of Fairies series by Maggie Stiefvater. And my favourite fairy tale is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
