Review: Never a Hero by Marie Sexton

Source: A review copy was provided by the publisher through NetGalley.

Never a Hero is the fifth book in the Tucker Spring series, which is the M/M Romance version of a small-town Contemporary. I have only read one of the previous books in the series (coincidentally co-written by Sexton); an experience that wasn’t entirely successful. And much like that one other book, this one ended up being a bit of a mixed bag.

The main character is Owen, a reclusive, insecure man who has serious mommy issues. He is deeply self-conscious about his congenitally amputated arm, his stutter and his sexuality. But when charming, outgoing Nick moves downstairs, Owen’s life radically changes, not only because of the instant attraction that flares between them, but because Nick helps him become more comfortable in his own skin. The rest is way too spoilery to tell. But there is a painful secret and lots of issues. Lots!

Review: Second Hand by Heidi Cullinan and Marie Sexton

Source: we received an e-ARC of the book through NetGalley for review purposes.

As you probably know, I love Marie Sexton. She’s one of those authors who never disappoints. I’m also a fan of Heidi Cullinan, although I haven’t read all of her novels. And now that they are teaming up to write a series of books set in the fictional town of Tucker Springs, I’m very excited to see what they do together.

Paul’s life was all about his girlfriend. He moved to a different town for her, and did everything she wanted. So when she dumps him he is devastated. Months later, he still hopes to win her back. But when she tells him that she’s living with someone else, a guy she was already sleeping with before ending their relationship, Paul decides that the best way to move on is to sell all her stuff. So he goes to the local pawn shop owned by El Rozal. They become friends, and soon lovers.

Reading Roundup: Goodbye year, hello books!

This two weeks went by way too fast for my liking, but thank God I didn’t have more days off because I ate like the world was ending, seriously, I’m afraid to put on non-elastic pants because I have a feeling they won’t fit!

Anyway, I had a lovely time spending Christmas with my parents, I had an embarrassing mountain biking accident, I won’t go into details but it involved what I think was a deer but it might have been a leaf, poison oak and my face. You can fill in the rest if you want (at least it was my face and not my butt, like the last time). But above all I read a lot, shocking, I know!

Review: Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton

Marie Sexton is one of my favorite writers. She was one of the first m/m authors I discovered and is a huge part of why I love the genre so much. Every time I talk about her I say this but I really think that if you are new to m/m you should start by reading her book Promises.

I admit that when I first heard about this book I was a bit skeptical because based on the cover and the blurb it seemed like it would be a bit of a drunken sex-fest on the beach. I mean, the book was about a bartender and a massage therapist living in Miami, so what was I supposed to think? Of course I was wrong and I should be ashamed because I have read all of her books and she doesn’t write anything superficial. Not only this book wasn’t superficial but I think it was one of the deepest and darkest books she has written. It deals with a lot of serious issues but in a way that leaves you feeling positive instead of depressed.

Interview: Marie Sexton

Hello everyone!

I’m very excited to be hosting the amazing Marie Sexton for this Q&A session. Marie is one of my favorite m/m writers, her book Promises was the first m/m romance I ever read and I was instantly hooked.

Her latest book, Between Sinners and Saints, is already available from Amber Allure, you can buy the electronic version here, and eventually you will be able to buy it on paperback as well.

This book sounds really interesting and I can’t wait to read it. In the meantime let’s give a warm welcome to Marie who is fantastic, awesome and a little bit fearless since she agreed to be interviewed by a newbie blogger like me…

Review: One More Soldier by Marie Sexton

This was such a beautiful book and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I liked it. It’s a very short story and I really don’t want to give away that many details, but I had to write how good it was and hopefully encourage people to read it.

Is 1970 and 35 year old Will has known 18 year old Bran since he was an 11 year old kid learning how to swim. Bran has been away for the past year and when he comes back the dynamic between them changes. Bran is a man on a mission, and what he wants is Will. Will adamantly refuses his advances because he can’t separate this Bran from the kid he knew, and because of the seventeen-year difference between them. But when Bran tells him that he has been drafted and is leaving in two weeks, everything changes.
