Last Minute Links and Deals

This is an exciting week that started a bit slow, it’s Labor Day so I guess everyone must be outside enjoying what’s left of the summer. I have some last minute links and deals that I found online and I’ll share them with you in case you’re feeling a bit bored. Don’t get used to seeing much book deals on the blog because I’m lazy, but there’s always Dear Author’s Daily Deals if you’re looking for good deals.

Have you heard about The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst? You probably have, since it’s been a huge success. Liz wonders about that success and why a book that’s basically a category romance became so popular when other similar books haven’t. Is it the “category” label that’s hurting the books? Interesting and thought-provoking post, as usual. Make sure to read her blog, she always comes up with fantastic, enlightening content. You can also find her on Twitter.

Kaetrin has an interesting analysis of Eve and Roarke (J.D. Robb In Death series) as Romance archetypes. I think Roarke didn’t originate the archetype; he reinvented it. The tortured, alpha hero was present in Romance long before Roarke, but the alpha-hole that’s not that much of a hole, and that respects the heroine and admires her strengths, is a different thing, and I believe that’s what sets Roarke apart. I do think that Eve is an archetype and she represents a new type of heroine that’s not that common in Romance but I see it all the time in PNR and Urban Fantasy. Another excellent blog that should be on your reader.

Fake reviews, sock puppets, fraudulent behavior… Self-published authors do it, Romance and YA authors do it, and now UK Mystery and Crime are doing it as well. Who else is doing it? Dentists! At this point I don’t know if I should laugh or cry, maybe both. Sunita has a detailed recount on her blog. Yep, today I’m pimping some of my favorite bloggers. So go and follow her!

Remember when I went on my New Adult/YA binge? One of the books that got me interested in the genre was Something Like Normal by Trish Doller (I reviewed it here). It was a bit expensive but now you can get the Kindle edition for $1.99. I don’t know how long the deal will last, so hurry! It's back at $9.99

Within Reach by Sarah Mayberry is still priced at $2.99. I didn't like it that much, but I think the price is great. And if you enjoy the widower trope I’m sure you’ll love this book.

You know how much I love Contemporary Romance, and Jennifer Crusie is one of the best authors in the genre. You can get Anyone But You on Kindle for $1.99. This is one of her older books, and I think those are the best. Her latest books have been a disappointment, but Anyone But You is a great story. The heroine is older than the hero and their relationship is compelling and interesting. Even the cute dog is cute instead of annoying.

When We Touch by Brenda Novak. I’m familiar with her Romantic Suspense stories, but this is a novella that starts a new Contemporary series. I didn’t like it, but it’s free!
