I put it...I'm in the midst of reading this one. I put it aside for a while because I wasn't comfortable with the... let's call it vague homophobia - in the first section of the book. She says she dated 3 gay guys but one was a first date and the other was a guy who she went out with and only she thought they were dating so I'm not sure that really qualifies. I felt like it was played for laughs and there was something about it which made me uncomfortable. I can't really articulate it any better I'm afraid.

But, I read an excerpt of later in the book with Levi and Faith and it was so much fun, that I do intend to get back to it. I think I'm going to have similar issues as most of my GR friends seem to have though! Maybe I can just skim and only read the Levi/Faith bits?Kaetrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16936055488367251592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4861127753744077469.post-91809482652023661892013-02-26T15:57:06.693-05:002013-02-26T15:57:06.693-05:00Reading the book made me sad! To me, that scene crossed the line because the author was using a character for comedic effect based on making fun and insulting her sexual orientation and gender identity. It’s also a scene that adds nothing to the plot.

I've also always enjoyed her books, this one included, but what happened in that scene was unacceptable and almost ruined the book for me. I really enjoy her books for exactly the reasons you name in the 5th paragraph of your review above, but really sad to read everything you pointed out after that part. :( Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00420773211895134710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4861127753744077469.post-42696139714434671162013-02-26T07:35:49.136-05:002013-02-26T07:35:49.136-05:00Yes, her humor can be uncomfortable at times and s...Yes, her humor can be uncomfortable at times and she has a tendency to abuse her heroines, but she crossed the line here and it's upsetting and offensive. And the worse thing is that if you strip those parts (and you could and still have the same book, which speaks volumes of just how important to the plot they were) the book would be one of her best in a long while.Briehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01694232807189281284noreply@blogger.com
